A reusable takeaway cup that can be borrowed for a refundable deposit. It offers customers an environmentally friendly way to buy takeaway drinks without the inconvenience of carrying around your own reusable cup.
The deposit is £1 per cup.
You pay a refundable deposit when you order your take out drink. As long as the cup isn’t damaged, return the cup (no receipt needed) to any participating café for a full deposit refund. Alternatively swap the used cup for a clean one when you next want a takeaway drink.
There are two cup sizes. Latte size (12oz) and Flat White size (8oz)
The cup is designed to retain heat while keeping your hands comfortable, but it is not a thermos cup. It keeps your drink warm in much the same way as a single-use paper cup.
Issuing a cup
Every transaction with a deposit in it comes to us. Each of these transactions has a unique ID. Each cup has a unique identification number encoded in a chip. When scanned, we use the unique ID of a cup and attach it to the transaction ID.
Returning a cup
When that cup is returned, we recognise the unique ID of the cup, and ask the cafés system to find the associated transaction ID, and refund the card associated with it.

Sheffield Action on Plastic is our local partner, supporting the rollout of the reusable cup system across Sheffield. As a community-led organisation, they work with businesses, schools and local organisations to reduce single-use plastic, promote sustainable alternatives and help create a cleaner, greener Sheffield. Their local knowledge and network play an important role in bringing this initiative to cafés and coffee lovers across the city.
